Mission Statement

Centre For Work & Occupational Health Safety (CWOHS) is dedicated to advocating for the rights and health safety of transport workers in Bangladesh. We strive to ensure justice for transport workers involved in road crashes and secure government compensation for affected workers or their families. Our goal is to reduce road crashes and creating a safer, fairer working environment for transport workers as well as a safe road for all.

Vision

CWOHS envisions a future where every transport worker operates in a safe and just environment and where no child is subjected to labor. We aim to establish a robust support system for transport workers and their families and to eradicate child labor, ensuring children having access to education and a bright future.

Programs and Initiatives

1. Justice for Transport Workers

Objective: To fight for the rights and justice of transport workers involved in road crashes or other illegal cases.

  • Legal Aid: Providing legal support and representation to transport workers blamed for road crash or unjust affairs.
  • Compensation Advocacy: Working with government authority to secure compensation for road crash or health affected workers or their families.
  • Awareness Campaigns: Aware transport workers as well as general peoples about the causes of road crashes, the rights of transport workers and the challenges they face.

2. Safety Promotion

Objective: To enhance the safety of transport workers.

  • Safety Training: Offer comprehensive safety training programs for transport workers.
  • Health camp: Offer comprehensive medical camp programs for transport workers.    
  • Prevention Research: Conducting research on climate change implications on workers, health safety, bad effect of road crashes, and disseminate findings.
  • Data Base: Creating online based data for road transport workers, owner, workers disable in road crashes, living miserable life after retirement etc, all over the country.

3. Eradication of Child Labor

Work and Health Safety Assistance Center (WHSAC)

Objective: To eliminate child labor and provide children with access to education.

  • Rescue Operations: Conduct operations to rescue children from labor situations.
  • Education Programs: Provide educational opportunities and support for rescued children.
  • Community Engagement: Work with communities to raise awareness about the importance of education and the dangers of child labor.

4. Support Services

Objective: To offer comprehensive support to transport workers or their families.

  • Counseling Services: Provide health support and psychological counseling to workers.
  • Financial Assistance: Offer financial aid to transport worker or their families affected in road crashes.
  • Rehabilitation Programs: Develop rehabilitation programs for injured workers to help them reintegrate into the workforce.

Key Achievements

  • Successfully assisted in recovery of Government compensation about tk. 26.5 million for 115 injured/died transport workers, passengers or their families affected by road crashes.
  • We successfully premiered documentary film titled: “Social Crossfire” based on the report covered on the convicted bus driver “Jamir Hossain” on behalf of the Bangladesh Road Transport Worker Federation with a hope and aim to aware people by demonstrating/ conveying the message that behind every road crash, the assumption of convicting the driver is not rational; rather proper investigation is necessary/should be held, so that any innocent person is not alleged.
  • Rescued and rehabilitated more than 20 children from labor situations, enrolling them in educational programs.
  • Conducted nationwide campaigns has premiered documentary film titled: “Social Crossfire” in 23 district for raising awareness about transport workers' rights and road crash.

Future Plans

  • Expand legal aid services to more regions in Bangladesh to support more transport workers.
  • Arranging more medical camp to build awareness about health safety.
  • Playing a vital roll for discipline in road and to reduce road crashes.
  • Increase the number of training programs about defensive driving.
  • Collaborate with international organizations to amplify efforts to eradicate child labor.
  • Establish more educational facilities and support services for rescued children.
